Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the U.S. She's been an editor since the year 1995. She founded Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. She also serves as the director of operations. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is determined to break down stereotypes that are in the popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism at a young stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she started the Feminist Frequency web site. The ebullient young woman was targeted online for launching a website that focused on the gender of videogames. Her determination was not slowed by the harassment, the fact is that it only bolstered her drive to become feminist and media critic. Her notable contributions to the feminist field have been recognized by numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within popular culture narratives.
